Is the 'should' used in the sentence putative ?

Does the meaning remain same when we remove the " should " from the sentence ?

I read in a post that there is a difference between the above two sentences because of the putative should.

In [1], I thought that no-one could possibly want to object, that there was nothing to which anyone could possibly object.

In [2], I knew that objections
