Should

Hi, everyone. Is this sentence below correct?

It was surprising that she should be talking to a lot people at the party. She's usually so shy.

Are all of them have the same meaning, which I think so? <-- by the way, is this sentence correct?

Thanks in advance.

See the first two threads here on putative should : Putative should : means, approximately, imagining (the situation) that something happens . More general than the 3rd one, to me, and similar to the 2nd (but 2nd is very formal and a bit old). Seems an existential choice to me (something happens, a situation exists or emerges).

The first and third are fine. The middle one is not.

Hi, Liveinjapan, that's a common mistake, often made by Asian learners, I think. They tend to use the verb "to be" when they need "to do". So you should have written "Do all of them have the same meaning?" or

It is in the South West of England and in Kidnapped.
