Vocabulary

shot to learm

Dear all,

I am trying to write down an interview and have come to a place that sounds to me like: "and the publishers were short to learn". Could this expression be possible or maybe you have other suggestions of what else this could be.

Thank you

Sure to learn, maybe? Emotion: smile

The subject line says "shot", and the body says, "short". Which is it? It would help to have the rest of the sentence and maybe a few on either side.

Here is the whole sentenct:

And what I want over the last nearly three years, since the iPad was introduced and publishers were sure to learn that maybe they had the right people and the right skill sets.

Thanks. I can't make sense of that, but I'd also say it's got to be "sure" in that position.

A wild guess - shocked ?

Yes, it's shocked, thank you. The whole sentence with some corrections:

And what I have learned over the last nearly three years, since the iPad was introduced and publishers were shocked to learn that maybe they did not have the right people and the right skill sets.

Good.

It's not really a complete sentence. I can't find a main clause.

Sounds like a good exercise to transcribe actual speech. Sometimes it does just ramble on, in contrast to the "proper" speech learned in books and classes.
