Can you give me some examples of 'shorthand' in English?

Please note that this are common, but not acceptable in any sort of formal writing. I also don't think they belong in a forum dedicated to English learning. u = you w/ = with pls = please thx = thanks Then there is the list of abbreviations used in chat, which I find awful.
