My friend has been using videos like this before his lessons and sent one to me. How effective is it for students, do you think?

Mister MicawberI thought it was a regional BrE accent.Not even close. It's more like a continental European accent, probably an eastern European one; with mild, American pronunciations for particular words.

it certainly did not strike me as an 'obvious non-native' accent. I have worked in Central Europe for many years; the accent sounds nothing like the way most Czechs, Poles or Slovaks speak English.
