My friend has been using videos like this before his lessons and sent one to me. How effective is it for students, do you think?

I'm surprised to hear you say that; I thought it was a regional BrE accent. Perhaps another member will be able to identify it.

Not even close. It's more like a continental European accent, probably an eastern European one; with mild, American pronunciations for particular words.

This Brit thought it was a North American accent!

it certainly did not strike me as an 'obvious non-native' accent. I have worked in Central Europe for many years; the accent sounds nothing like the way most Czechs, Poles or Slovaks speak English.
