SHORT STORY WRITING

HI everyone I need your help with this exercise my teacher gave me.
I have to write a story about whatever i like but the important thing is it must end with the sentence : "I had never been so surprised in all my life"
Here it is my attempt . I wonder if you could correct my errors and in your opinion it is sufficient for the fce level. Also fell free to add sentences or adjectives to make it sounds better

It was a pleasant Saturday night evening so my wife and I decided to dinner at the restaurant near the lake which our friends had spoken well about.
The food was delicious , we talked for a while then decided to go back to the car.
As soon as we entered the parking area a car came out at full speed from the darkness and almost hit us. I managed to turn at the car before it disappeared and it looked very similar to mine so I run as fast as I can where I parked but only an empty space was there.
The following day I went to the police to report the theft but as I explained where the place was the policemen seems surprised: another car was stolen in the same are few weeks before.
That car meant a lot for me . Not only because I need it for my job but especially because it was a present from my father.
Some days after I went to one of those shops on the road which selled second hand cars.
While the vendor was showing some models one in particular drew my attention: it was a Volkswagen with a dent on the left door the same I took more than 5 years ago in an accident.
I had never been son surprised in all my life
