short-sighted alienation

This short-sighted alienation of their own supporters may lose them the election.

I think, the alienation means `lose of support', but I cannot understand the `short-sighted alienation'.

Could you help me on this?

Short-sighted means you do not consider the long-term results. Alienation means you have done something to make those people not like you, or be very displeased with you. They no longer want to associate with you.
