Short motivation letter for PhD Scholarship

Dear All,
I formulated a motivation letter for the NWO Research Talent Funding Scheme (Netherlands). Please note they only allow 350 words maximum.

Here are there specifications: The motivation is an explanation to the CV. In this section the candidate explains why he/she desires to carry out PhD research and why her CV is fitted for the envisaged research. The motivation also provides an opportunity to explain particular situations. The central question is: does the motivation to convince the assessor of the candidate's drive to conduct research?

I would appreciate any comments and critical advice in regards to grammar, sentence structure and content.

Thank you very much for your help.
Best,
Michaela

I am writing to apply for the NWO Research Talent Funding Scheme in order to advance my research interest in Medical Anthropology, focusing on Ebola in Liberia.
Throughout my studies I gained in-depth knowledge on how to critically analyse health issues in a globalising world from a social science perspective. Furthermore, I learnt how global institutions and governments influence national health policies, often contributing to the weakening of existing health care systems in developing countries.
Whilst conducting research for my undergraduate project I observed how Ghana’s health care system is struggling with the double burden of infectious and chronic diseases, resulting in understaffed, under-resourced and underfunded health care services. In order to cope with such structural inequalities, the local population creatively employed cope-mechanisms, resistance and self-help practices. Groups were formed around certain diseases and local physiotherapists educated community workers on how to provide basic physical therapy to stroke survivors who were unable to afford the commuting costs to a hospital.
My acquired knowledge left me wondering how the already fragile health care system in Liberia is coping with the current Ebola epidemic and what impacts this outbreak has on the local population. I am in particular interested in how the epidemic affects the urban population in Monrovia. The proposed study will be ground-breaking, as no social-science research has been conducted on the socio-economic and political consequences of an Ebola epidemic in capital cities. As such this research is timely relevant as due to the ever increasing urbanisation around the globe, urban epidemic outbreaks are much more likely to occur.
My broad academic training and field experience has optimally prepared me for this research. Additionally my extensive professional therapeutic and office experience has demonstrated my adaptability and strengthened my organisational and time management skills.
To obtain the prestigious NWO Research Talent Funding Scheme would enable me to prepare myself thoroughly for the proposed innovative research within a highly stimulating academic environment at the University of Amsterdam. This funding would path the way for a successful future as an academic medical anthropological researcher and an advocate on behalf of the researched population.

Its too long. Nobody has the time to read it all. You should consider shortening it.
