Oftentimes, our capacity for faith may diminish due to lengthy periods of uncertainty, illness and grief. But it

’s also important to realize that these pain-inducing obstacles can be used to strengthen us physically, mentally and emotionally. From time to time, we are confronted with situations that test our faith, dampen our spirits or even force us to reconsider our goals and aspirations. Faith allows us to believe that a happy, bountiful future is possible even though we may be faced with a gloomy, sorrowful present. Just as dark clouds inevitably shift to reveal a brighter sun, troubles eventually fade in order to reveal a brighter day. A great biblical example of faith can be found in the story of Job. To test Job’s faith, God allowed Satan to infiltrate his life. Job lost all of his children, his livestock, and his land. Throughout this terrible ordeal, however, Job continued to uphold his faith since he was completely convinced that he was innocent of any wrong doing. Job did not change. He continued to pray and God was so pleased with his steadfastness that he decided to multiply his previous possessions. God restored Job’s livestock and his daughters were the prettiest in the region. Like Job, we can use an unyielding perseverance to strive toward our long and short term goals. Faith is dynamic because it spurs us into action, it makes us attempt the unthinkable and it rekindles the weakened flame within us. Without faith, it would have been impossible for David to defeat Goliath with a slingshot and a few stones. Many times, in our personal lives, it only takes a seed-sized amount of faith to accomplish something significant. A simple idea, if cultivated correctly, can bring forth a multitude of rewards, whether expected or accidental. When I encounter difficulties at school and work, I try to demonstrate Job-like faith to help me reach success. Faith has permitted me to continue looking for employment opportunities even though the job market is slow to recover. With this attitude, I will most likely come across a job that is actually more rewarding and more enjoyable than my previous one. I am always excited to welcome new challenges and circumstances into my life. With faith, I will be just as excited to say my good-byes to these same trials at a later time. Just remember that if you stick to your goals long enough, your rewards will appear when you least expect them to.
