Short circuit

Hi, help me please figure out what Mickey Rourke exatly meant by "short circuit" in his sentence: " I felt so low I had to go and get help. I'm still kind of embarrassed to say it but i had to go and see a therapist for many years and work really hard to find out what made me short circuit."

To get something done quick? If so, I don't understand.

Thank you.

He's using an electrical term as a metaphor. When something short circuits, the electricity doesn't flow the way it's intended and it destroys the item, often with sparks, flames or melting. Mickey Rourke is saying he did the same thing in his life - he made some bad choices, and it caused his life (and his career) to not function properly.
