Shops in BE / AE

Hi all,

can you confirm to me is the main difference between words that describe shops is the apostrophe-s at the end of the shop's name?

E.g.: AE = butcher / BE = butcher's

Or is it also common to use the apostrophe-s form in AE?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi,

Broadly speaking, I don't think I use this "person plus apostrophe' form much, maybe not at all.

eg I go to a shoe store, a supermarket, a beer store,an electronics store.

I even go to the doctor, rather than the doctor's.
