shopping street

Could you please check which setence is natural?
I wish to include the nuance that the street is long.
And I am not asking which unit is easier to understand km or miles in your country.

1)This shopping street is 5 km long.
2)This shopping street extends 5 km.

Top answer

The term "shopping street" is not used in English. And streets with shops along them rarely extend more than a mile in length. In the US this would be expressed, for example, as: The shopping district runs for almost a mile.

Yes it is. It's more common in British English than American English, though.

European cities do have "shopping streets." The term "shopping street" is not used in the US, because we have shopping malls and strip centers.
