Shopping

Hello,

Could you please tell me if the sentence is correct?

It started raining when I was going shopping.

I have doubts about the "I was going shopping" part. Wouldn't be "... I was going to a shop" better?

Thank you

The sentence is possible but is not the greatest ever written, in my opinion. You may mean "It started raining when/while I was out shopping". "going to a shop" means visiting one shop.

The grammar is OK, but it doesn't say what you mean really coherently and idiomatically. One of these may be what you want.
.
It started raining (just) as I was about to go shopping.
It started raining while I was out shopping.
