hello, my question is about the word shopping. why do people say "lets go shopping" if shopping is an action thats currently happening?

why not say "lets go shop"?

Anonymous why do people say "lets go shopping" if shopping is an action thats currently happening? It's not currently happening. "Let's go shopping." is a suggestion.

You can say 'I like shopping.' when you are not shopping.



why not say "lets go shop"? You can say that too, but "shopping" is much more commonly said.

It's a shortened form of the almost archaic let us go . . .
