She/he/it

Hi;

Let's say I'm talking to someone about a table. And I say: It has(something). I can't say she/he has, can I?

Also, talking about a bird whose gender I don't know.

He/she/it has(something)- Can I only use 'it' in such cases? What about spiders and cats? I should use she/he when I know a gender of an animal? Can I use 'it' in such cases and is it wrong?

Thanks.
