She stood in the balcony for hardly two minutes ...

Hi

Are these lines natural, especially the underlined parts? Also, is the register OK too? Any suggestions are welcome.

She stood in the balcony for hardly two minutes and then returned to the huge mahogany table in her room, which she used as a desk. The sixth story of her flat along with her increasingly poor eyesight mocked her each time she went to the balcony to have a view of the busy Tanzil Street. It wasn’t so bad five years ago. The number sixth didn’t matter at all. She smiled at the thought how she would often prefer stairs to the lift. She would spring up the six flights in one go and would gasp for breath.

Thanks,

Tom
