Do you find this sentence natural, especially the yellow parts? Any suggestion is welcome.



She misconstrued his calling her the second time as his desperate need for a job. The truth of the matter was he had developed a horrible crush on her.

Can I substitute "misinterpreted" for "misconstrued"?
