She just reached about one mile near the lodge when it began to rain.

Dear all,

I would like to know whether the following sentences are correct and please tell me whether "when" is necessary in these sentences.

1) She just reached about one mile near the lodge when it began to rain.

2) She was just within a mile of the lodge when it began to rain.
