She became a singer now.

Hello

" Jane was a great writer but she became a singer now." Is this OK in terms of the combination of a past tense and a present tense? (Also is it ok to use "a" for past and present tenses in the question?)

Thanks a lot.

Thanks for confirmation.

How about in formal writing? (By the way 'in a formal writing' is correct?)

Hi Zazzex

A narrative is not necessarily informal writing. Basically, a narrative is simply a story about the past. A narrative can be written in any style -- formal or informal.

If your sentence is not part of a narrative, then I would use "has become" rather than "became" -- or I would simply say "she is a singer now."
