Please correct the following sentences. Thank you.

Uncle was silent for long, watching intently at the waves. He then let out a peal of laughter and said: “I started counting the waves that were trying to touch the shore.” They said: ‘don’t count us, bloke and waste your time. Counting us is like shaving an egg… a futile job,” Uncle laughed again, and there was a chorus of laughter blasted from the nearby crowd who had heard uncle’s remarks.
