Share or equity

Hi,

I know this question is a bit technical, but could you perhaps explain to me the main difference between 'share' and 'equity'?

If I was a co-owner of some property and the property would be divided, every co-owner would get the amount of money that corresponds with their share or equity?

Thank you!

Equity is some interest in the value of a business or asset. John owns a house. The house will sell for $100,000, but he has a mortgage of $80,000.
