Share Nouns

Hi everyone,

I have a question on share nouns in English. Consider the following sentence.

" If we want to apply for membership in the tennis club, all we have to do is write down our name and address on the piece of paper. "

Should they be names and addresses rather than name and address since we don't share the same name; nor do we live in the same house? Emotion: smile

Would you please help me correct my grammatical mistakes, too? Emotion: smile

Thank you very much

Kenny

If "we" refers to a group of people, then it should be "names and addresses", because, as you say, each person has a different name and address. Sometimes, however, "we" is used almost like a less formal or more "friendly" way of saying "one", in which case the singular nouns may be justifiable (albeit the verbs agreeing with "we" must remain plural). We apply for membership "of" a club, not "in".
