Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Screenwriter Shane Black is being sued by a former girlfriend who claims she was brutalized by the scribe while he was high on drugs. Sonya Popovich has filed legal papers in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Thursday, alleging that the 47-year-old writer/director, who wrote "Lethal Weapon" and 1993's "The Last Action Hero," repeatedly kicked, punched and choked her while they were still dating.
She cited an incident in 2006, wherein a cocaine-fueled Black put a gun in his mouth, threatened to blow his head off, and then pointed the weapon in her direction. The gun fired off, hitting a wall.
Also, Black allegedly crushed and tried to suffocate her in a separate incident during the same year. She said she was hospitalized for a hairline split in her esophagus that the writer had inflicted. While in the hospital, he visited her on "crawled into (her) bed, removed a vial of cocaine from his pocket, sniffed some cocaine from the vial, and proceeded to masturbate in Plaintiff's hospital bed."
Popovich is suing Black for assault, battery and emotional distress. She is seeking for more than $5 million.
