Shake or Shake out

Hi

Which one of these sounds better? Any other suggestions are welcome.

(Mother to her son)

Always shake your shoes before putting them on to ensure there is no insect inside.

I think "shake out" is better here. Probably "... there are no insects inside" is more natural.
