Vocabulary

shade/shadow/shelter

I know they are different from each other. But i am totally confused about the following situations. 1. the dark side of part of an object in a drawing to show the direstion of the sunlight (shade?shadow?) 2. the protection of a powerful person (shadow?shelter?). "shelter" may seem more proper here, but i have found a phrase --"under the shadow of" , which also has a definition of protection.

Anonymous 1. the dark side of part of an object in a drawing to show the direction of the sunlight = shadow Anonymous i have found a phrase --"under the shadow of" , which also has a definition of protection. Usually when we say someone is under the shadow of a powerful person, it means they are overpowered by them or their fame.
