Hello everybody.
I'm reading Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.
Meanwhile it had become much brighter.
Standing out clearly from the other side of the street was
a part of the endless gray-black house situated opposite (it
was a hospital) with its severe regular windows breaking
up the facade.
Would you please tell me what the bold part means?
Does regular mean simple?
Thanks ??

Jamal 1315severe regular windows breaking up the facade
The facade is the face of the building. This particular facade is characterized by evenly spaced windows which look imposing and a little scary (severe).
