several days afterward/later

My brother's bicycle was stolen, but he didn't realize it until several days afterward/afterwards/later.

Do all the three underlined words fit in the above context? Thanks.

Here is my try: Later is ok. Afterwards and afterward are friends as far as I know, there is no meaning change. Moreover, you can use"subsequently" but I don't know whether it will sound natural or you can rephrase the sentence like that: My brother's bicycle was stolen, but he didn't realize it until several days after that.

  • Here is my try: Later is ok.

  • Edit: Afterward and afterwards don't sound good to my ears in this sentence though.
