Hi everbody

Can anyone please explain the meaning of 'settle with' in this sentence?

--> "But one thing is settled with me."

Is it something 'to understand well', or something like that?

It's not "settled with", it's "settled a thing" inverted for passive voice. It means "decided". He has has made a final decision about one thing.

The full sentence is like that:

--> But one thing's settled with me: To appreciate Heaven well, it's good for a man to have some fifteen minutes of ****!

So, can we say 'I decided that........" ? Is it the same?

I called it passive, but now I don't think it is. The usage is "someone settles something": subject, verb, object. But "settled" looks like a predicate adjective there, now that I look at it again. "Thing is settled": subject, copula, adjective. The "with me" is just an added prepositional phrase acting as an adverb modifying "settled" and meaning "in my mind
