Setting

Consider the following sentence:

"There are websites through which you can get a 'pen-pall' to speak with, whether in person if you both live in the same SETTING, or via Skype."

a) Is 'setting' an appropriate noun if you want to refer to a place that could be a city, town or village?

b) Or/and is there a better word for that?
