Set vs sat

Ok, I've searched all over the net and am having a heck of a time finding which is correct for a particular sentence, because they keep telling me the difference between sit and set, and that is not my issue, I know that one. Emotion: stick out tongue

I need to know if "set" or "sat" is more correct in this sentence: In the ornamental chrome competition, a 1950 four-door Pontiac sedan, strutting its own signature large bell-shaped grille, set in another driveway across the street.

Thanks,
Mur

That's what I thought... I knew the way he had it sounded wrong, but I didn't want to change it without verifying it first. Thanks!
