Set pressure for/on?

Hello,

What would be correct to write: set pressur FOR or ON something?

the whole sentence being the following:

"From the late 1950s one result of the increasing interaction between East and West was that Western life-style, transmitted vividly through films and music, set an enormous pressure for/on the Eastern Bloc."

And if a second question is allowed, should 'pressure' be preceded by the particle 'an' or could it be left out,

"set enormous pressure"?

Many thanks in advance!

  • e.

  • But the context of your sentence didn't seem to be the case.
  • Therefore," set" is not the right choice of word in my opinion.

If the cotnext is technical, i.e. Set the to 15 psi - yes, it is fine. But the context of your sentence didn't seem to be the case. Therefore," set" is not the right choice of word in my opinion. You may say " place the pressure on.......something".
