Set out vs Set off

Hello,
What in your opinion is the difference between: "Once I have enough money saved up, I am going to set off/set out and never come back" and "After three days of rest the travelers set out/off again"?

In US English the first sentence is incorrect usage. Set off and set out can't be used in this situation. " The second sentence is correct with either word.

In US English the first sentence is incorrect usage. Set off and set out can't be used in this situation. You'd say instead something like: "Once I have enough money saved up, I'm going to leave (this crummy town) and never come back."

The second sentence is correct with either word. The meaning is the same with both words, but there is the subtlest shade in nuance:
