Set off vs. Set forth

Hi

Could you please tell me if the two idioms set forth and set off (start a journey) are common among native speakers? Are they equally synonymous and natural in everyday English?

Are these sentences OK?

  1. What time did you people set forth / off?
  2. We set off / forth in our lovely little car, which gave us a lot of trouble later.
  3. Why did you set off / forth so late?
  4. Any plans about setting off / forth tomorrow morning?

Thanks,

Tom

'Forth' is rather old-fashioned now. Otherwise, they are synonymous. ('Equally synonymous' is a phrase that defies logic.)
