Set, chart a course

Hi,

Can ‘set or chart a course’ be used figuratively like this?

“I wanted to take my dog for a longer walk, but she set/charted a course for the house.”

Thank you.

  • Yes.
  • It seems more appropriate for writing than for conversation, however — especially with "charted".
  • In case you don't already realize it, it's jocular in character.
