set and goes

Is different meaning between the sun goes down and the sun set down?

Top answer

The sun rises in the East and sets in the West. Obviously, because it is witnessed by any sighted person in the world, there are different versions of the above sentence; but I haven’t heard of ‘set down’ for the disappearance of the sun.

Yes, in addition to the sun rises and the sun sets as above, we also sat that the sun comes up and the sun goes down. But we do not say the sun sets down.

No difference in meaning, but it's "sets". Not "sets down".

goes down = sets
comes up = rises
