series = singular?

is the term "series" considered to be singular?

ex) "ABC series is pc based card that is......"

or should it be "ABC series are pc based cards that are....?"

can I use "series" to indicate a certain product group as used above?

Series and species are the same word in singular and plural. English has many irregular plurals. wikipedia has a very good list.
