series consists of two?

Can a series of something consists of only two items/events?

Example: They launched a series of attack before succeeded in taking over the country. The first attack was a small one, but the second attack was so fearsome that all of the enemies surrendered.

No. The point of a series is a number of things of which each thing is in some way similar to the one before.

Maybe I should change my example. They used the same strength of attack. My question is whether a series can contain only two similar items/events, or does it have to have more than two similar items/events.

They launched a series of attack before succeeded in taking over the country. After the first attack failed, they attacked again for the second time. The country was already weakened

My point was that you need more than two to make a series.
