Sequencing and embedded questions

What is the relationship between a language function called sequencing and embedded sentences? For instance in the following sentences, I understand they are sentences with relative clauses, but I don't know why they are considered sequences. "The person who Susan is taller is Mary." "I know the woman whose father is visiting."
