Sequel V follow-up

Hi,

(1) The movie BBB is a follow-up to the movie AAA

(2) The movie BBB is a sequel to the movie AAA

(Hope the above ex-ples make sense)

I wonder what the main differences between "follow-up" and "sequel" are?

thanks in advance!

In this context, there is little difference. I could take "follow-up" to mean that the story is continuing, while a "sequel" might have an entirely different story, that has no connection to the original. "Follow-up" is more often used in areas like news, where they give an additional report as more information is known.
