Sentences Nov 19

Hi,

Are the following sentences natural to a native ear?

1. He speaks so low that I can barely hear him.

2. I have seen many such people and know that hanging out with them leads up to no good.

3. When I get old and need assistance would/will you take care of me?

Thanks,

MG.

 • In some areas (like where I'm from), 'talks' may be used more often than 'speaks' in a sentence like this.
 • But 'speaks' is certainly ok!

Musicgoldspeaks so low
I don't use this. I say speaks so softly. Maybe the choice is regional. I don't know.

CJ, I do agree with 'regional' and even cultural. I live in east-central NC, and if I go east into more traditionally rural country, I'll hear 'talks so low' quite often. But if I go west toward Research Triangle Park and the universities, where the population is more academic and even international, I'm more likely to hear 'speaks so softly'.
