Hi,



Are the following sentences natural to a native ear?



1. Do you think I study math at this age so that it will help me in my career? No, I do it merely because I enjoy learning new insights; the insights that I may not ever use in my life.



2. It is just the pleasure of finding out that things didn't make perfect sense for a reason and this is the reason.

The main problem with #1 is that math has little to do with insight. The main problem with #2 is that I can make no sense of it. 1.

May I ask, why you chose the present continuous over the simple past here? I thought native speakers prefer simple tenses over their present/perfect derivatives. -- No we don't, and I don't see continuous or perfect aspects as derivatives. I used 'I'm studying' because of 'this age', which I presume is the speaker's age at the moment and he is actually studying.
