Sentences

Which of these sentences ic correct, or sounds better:

a) "It's not worth keeping to strive for that."

b) "It's not worth keeping striving for that."

Top answer

a) is wrong because 'keep' takes an -ing form, not a to form ( keep trying, keep going, ... ). b) is technically correct, but the two -ing s in a row are so very awkward that the sentence sounds wrong.

  • I'd change 'keep' to 'continue' and use the infinitive as permitted with 'continue', thus: It's not worth continuing to strive for that.
