Does this answer to this question make sense?

Note: The answer is basically "no" but i have to use the word (or any form of the word) "abate"

Q: Did the Cherokees' repeated appeals to the United States government slow down the theft of their land?

My A: The repeated appeals to the U.S. government left the Cherokee land unabated?
