I'd use a comma after "sad."

I don't know what a toilet stand is.

Your sentence implies that the toilet is in the main part of the office, rather than in "the bathroom," which would be appurtenant to the office. (Don't use "appurtenant.")

In my opinion, whether or not there was anything on the toilet stand is not relevant, and should be deleted.

I'd probably say,
"I assumed that it was (had been) left on a stand in the office bathroom [, next to the toilet]."

"Reluctantly" is not the right adverb in this situation, in my opinion.

Perhaps something like, "Not surprisingly, I fould it embarrassing etc."
