sentences

Please provided your answers to the following.
Situation 1:

Is this correctly written/puntuated?
A: Hi, John, you know this poor person is sick and seems emotionally unstable. Thus, this is what I recommend: Talk to him nicely and softly. Give him a feeling that you cares and do not interrupt his talking.

Situation 2:

Is this correctly written/punctuated?
(He wasn't able to attend the farewell party of his friend)
Talking on the phone:
A: Hi, John, I hope everything at the farewell went well.
If this is not correct how would you correct it? Should what comes after 'hope' be in a present or a future tense?
