sentence type 1(Subject + Verb)

0 I am making English grammar books in Korea.02br
00 In Korea, students learn sentnece types 1 through 5. (s+v, s+v+c, s+v+o, s+v+i.o+d.o, s+v+o+o.c)02br
00 And to explain sentence type 1, we put explanations as follows, along with example sentences "A baby laughed." and "He was in bed."02br
00 "We call the sentence where meaning is complete only with the subject and the verb as type 1. In the type 1, adverbial phrase often follow. But the adverbial phrase is not regarded as an element of a sentence. Verbs like be-verbs, live, stay are always followed by adverbial phrases"02br
00However, is the second sentence, "He was in bed." complete in meaning without "in bed''? Can we say it is complete in meaning if such verbs always need to be followed by adverbial phrases? 02br
00Would anyone help me about this matter? Thanks a lot in advance!!!!0-

00This is my take. Respectfully, Idisagree with this view. We can’t have a sentence without the bare basic S+V+ O. or 00 00S+V+Adv.02br

You are confusing sentence 1 with the need in your mind for the structure of sentence 2. But sentence 1 is complete in itself. If the question is asked, "Where is John?" An appropriate and complete sentential response would be "He left." Not "He left the party" or "He left our presence" for these would be too complete.
