Sentence tense confusion

When someone post something and I reply, "What you said is totally wrong."

Which tense should be used in a situation like this present "What you say is totally wrong." Or past "What you said is totally wrong." and why did I use "said (Past)" and "is (Present)"

I am asking why did I use because I don't really know why did I use "Said" and "Is" in the same sentence. It just sound normal to my ears - if I am not mistaken. -
