Sentence structure

Hi teachers, can anyone explain the difference between these two to me?

I was playing a game with a random person online and he saw me not having any kill and said:

Why are you upset, is it because you haven't had any kills in this match?

Why are you upset, is it because you don't have any kills in this match?

I find the first one awkward as he said it during the match and not after. What is the correct usage of haven't had and what is the difference between the two?
