Sentence structure

Hi teachers, can anyone tell me which sentence is more natural here?

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

I know that 'jumps' here is more natural but If eel like jumped would be, too.

Can anyone help me?
