Sentence structure

Is this sentence grammatical correct and does it sounds incomplete?


A village suffers due to a long drought, and it’s said that the God of Water, Ha Baek, will allow the rain if a young woman is sacrificed to become his bride. The villagers sacrifice So-ah. When So-ah meets Ha Baek, he’s nothing like he seemed.

The English is all OK (according to a traditional rule, "due to" is misused, but almost no one cares about that "rule" nowadays). However, "he’s nothing like he seemed" doesn't seem logical. She's meeting him for the first time, right? So what point in time does "he seemed" refer to? Possibly you mean something more like "he's nothing like she expected"?
